The microsystem is the setting in which the child experiences direct interactions with others, including family, school, church, etc. Bronfenbrenner has pointed out that most of the research on socio–cultural influences in a child’s life has focused on microsystems. What is a Macrosystem in child development? The macrosystem is the cultural environment in which the child resides. The macrosystem is a part of the ecological systems theory. Urie Bronfenbrenner developed the ecological systems theory in 1979 in an attempt to explain the role the environment plays in childhood development.
